Screen Shot 2019-05-17 at 13.52.58

You will hear the story of how Margherita started to experiment with “touch” in a clinic designed for patients suffering from Alzheimer’s and dementia. The project began three years ago and still runs today. She will also demonstrate a few unconventional techniques that she uses to manipulate textiles in 3 dimensions. The lecture will be a moment to listen, learn and touch touch touch!

Moreover, Margherita will give a small insight into the story of her last tactile work which was produced in Aruba with plastic waste collected from the island.

EXHIBITION ‘ABSURD BEINGS ON SKIN’

AbsurdBeings, founded by Anne Lakeman, Irina Djojoatmodjo, Margherita Pauline Soldati, Meret Zimmermann and Mirre Yayla Séur, is an inclusive platform that organizes exhibitions which enable the exchange of knowledge and critique.

ABSURDBEINGS

For this edition, Absurd Beings bases the exhibition on a section from Sarah Achmed’s “Thinking Through Skin” – hence the exhibition’s title: “AbsurdBeings on Skin”.

Skin is where you touch and are touched, by both human and non-human. It is both public and private. It is the outline of self and the distinction of others. Skin as a location where political and social conflict arises, as the border between inside and out. The questions we pose are: what is the dynamic function of skin in a time where people are separated and sub-grouped more and more? Where is the distinction between self and other, and how is that used politically and intimately? Do we end at our skin?

More information here.

When: 01.05.2019 – 04.05.2019
Where: Kunstkapel, Prinses Irenestraat 19, Amsterdam

“NAAKT OF BLOOT?” – Exhibition @ Museum Jan Cunen

The work of Margherita will be part of the exhibition ‘Naakt of Bloot’.

Nude or naked? The female nude in Dutch painting 1875-1925
and Naked or exposed in contemporary art. Museum Jan Cunen feels the necessity to view and discuss the current social discussion regarding nude and exposed. It illustrates this discussion with two exhibitions in which the female nude is central and the beauty of the naked body is celebrated.

The work explores the relation that connects textile structure with the physical and social space by analysing the boundaries between space, tactile perception and textile surfaces. With these installations Margherita is diving into a new personal research on how to blur the line between the traditional function of surfaces and more stimulating encounters with our daily surroundings.
